Disney Cruise Line Announces New Ships

On July 15, 2017, Disney Cruise Line announced plans to add three new cruise ships within the next six years. This is one more cruise ship than was originally planned. The newly announced ship will go into service in 2022, with other ships entering service in 2021 and 2023. All of the ships will be built at Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.

The names of the ships, designs, and itineraries have not yet been announced. It is expected that each of the new ships will have it's own unique experience. The three new ships will all be the same size with 1,250 staterooms, and will all come in at a total of approximately 135,000 gross tons. This will make them slightly bigger than Disney's two newest ships at the moment, the Disney Fantasy and Dream. Each ship will be powered off of clean burning liquefied natural gas.

Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, made a statement saying, "We decided two ships wouldn’t be enough to hold all of the exciting new experiences we have been dreaming up to take family cruise vacations to a whole new level with immersive Disney storytelling, world-class family entertainment, and imaginative innovations that are fantastically fun and uniquely Disney."

The three new ships will bring Disney Cruise Line's fleet size to a total of seven ships.
